Outcomes (WP6)

Summary

As part of the More-than-Human Design WP within the NorDark consortium, we employed a variety of methodologies, including practice-based, futures-oriented, sensory-based, and artistic research approaches. Our aim was to explore how a more-than-human methodology can be integrated into the other WPs research and further developed for future use.

We conducted a series of multispecies workshops to engage, map, and co-create with diverse stakeholders associated with NorDark test sites. These self-developed workshops included:

  • A 3-day multispecies workshop with preschool children in Uppsala, Sweden.
  • A 3-day multispecies workshop with elementary school children in Ålesund, Norway.
  • Development of a preliminary More-than-Human Design curriculum for engineering students in collaboration with NTNU Ålesund, Norway.
  • A multispecies futures workshop with city planners in Uppsala, Sweden.

The culmination of our work is reflected in "The Cone of Light," an immersive installation that serves as a final reflection of our findings. This installation invites visitors to step outside the center and view the night as a shared world with many other beings. It illustrates how our lighting impacts the lives of animals, the forest, and our own self-perception. Rather than presenting data solely as numerical information, "The Cone of Light" encourages an embodied curiosity—a gentle process of re-learning how to listen, observe, and belong to the world beyond human scales.

"The Cone of Light" was conceptualized by İdil Gaziulusoy, Julia Lohmann, and Gloria Lauterbach, and realized by Ana Todosijević, in partnership with Matti Niinimäki.
